Coral Reefs

Since Jacques Cousteau discovered, in 1960, the existence of coral reefs surrounding the island, Cozumel has become one of the favorite places for diving enthusiasts from around the world. The most interesting sites, to explore the underwater landscape, lie along the west coast, such as Paradise reef, ideal for beginners, Chankanaab, an amazing nature reserve, and Yucab, with its abundant marine life, including moray eels and wreckfish.

Southeast of the island, the dive sites of San Francisco and Santa Rosa feature challenging currents, suitable only for intermediate and advanced divers. Palancar, the island's most famous reef, includes caves, underwater coral gardens and many more attractions that divers dream of seeing.

A little further south, Playa Mia Grand Beach Park offers various activities, such as boat rides, snorkel and dive excursions at Palancar reef and the underwater Mayan city, jet skis and pedal boat rentals. It also has a floating iceberg, water beds, a fun playground, a restaurant and a gift shop.

This Mayan archeological site, sanctuary of the goddess Ixchel, was Cozumel's most important site for the strategic, commercial and political development of the area. Faro Celarain

Faro Celarain is an ecological reserve located in Punta Sur that conserves and preserves the ecosystem within it. Coral reefs, mangroves, coastal dunes, lagoons and beaches, which are refuges for many endemic and endangered species, are all looked after at Faro Celarain.
