In the downtown district choices include sophisticated eateries and romantic places, such as Cafe des Artistes, one of Puerto Vallarta's most well-known restaurants, which blends provincial Mexican with classical French cuisine.  Live piano music, original works of art and lush gardens enhance the romantic effect. Menu includes stuffed crab, roasted sea bass, marinated salmon and roasted duck.

For some truly authentic Mexican cuisine there's only one place to go downtown: Cafe Olla, a great place for Mexican food, with reasonable prices and friendly service. Menu includes delicious pork ribs, chicken, roast beef, shrimp and traditional Mexican dishes; the portions are large and full of flavor. Cafe de Olla offers something for everyone. There are a few tables outside and the back part of the restaurant is air conditioned, but you must be prepared for a wait, as it does not accept reservations.

 


South

To the south of the downtown area is Daiquiri Dick's, where California cuisine is blended with traditional Mexican flavors. Menu includes filet of fish "Zarandeado" or "Portofino", BBQ spareribs, lobster tacos, butter fried prawns and chicken in Oaxacan mole.
